What is the Gynecomastia procedure?
Gynecomastia is defined as an increase of the volume of the mammary gland in a male. The purpose of this surgery is to restore the patient to the best normal anatomy.
Firstly by reducing the breast volume by direct surgical excision or liposuction for fat forms (In most of cases both techniques are combined); then by reducing excess skin.
Before the Gynecomastia
The motivations and requests of the patient will be analysed during the preoperative consultation with the surgeon.
No medication containing aspirin should be taken within 10 days before surgery.
Stopping smoking is obligatory before surgery.
Anaesthesia for Gynecomastia
Usually the procedure is done with a local anesthetic depth by tranquilizers administered intravenously.
How long does Gynecomastia take?
Depending on the magnitude of the work involved, the procedure can last from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
How visible will Gynecomastia scars be?
The goal of the surgeon is to get a scar from the best possible quality. Scars may be around the areola, horizontal and extend to either side of the areola.
Other types of scars are possible (vertical tail racket ...), they depend on each individual case. The length and position of scars vary according to the operating technique. Their quality depends on the surgical technique and patient factors (age, skin type and quality...)
Recovery and Healing after Gynecomastia
Moderate to severe pain may occur the first few days after surgery. Analgesic treatment adapted to the intensity of pain will be prescribed. For individual liposuction, the patient may experience pain locally - type "strong pains." Swelling, bruising and discomfort to the elevation of the arms are frequent early times.
The first dressing is removed after a few days. It is then replaced by a lighter dressing. Often, the initial compressive dressing is then quickly, lighter dressing is associated with a compression vest to wear day and night for some time. This compression helps the skin retraction and promotes even healing.
Normal activity can be seen from the fifth day following the surgery. It is advisable to wait one to two months before resuming sports.
The scars are changing for one or two years after the intervention: they are first white and fine the first month, and then turn pink or red and indurated until the fourth month. Then they gradually whiten.
How long after a Gynecomastia do you start seeing results?
The improvement is often clear and immediate. However, within two to three months is necessary to appreciate the final result. This is the time required for post-operative edema disappear and the excess skin retracts. Beyond this period, tissues gradually gain greater flexibility.
