What is the Otoplasty procedure?
Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves correcting protruding ears.
Before the Otoplasty
No medication containing aspirin should be taken within 10 days before surgery .Stopping smoking is strongly recommended before surgery.
Anaesthesia for Otoplasty
This procedure is generally done with a local anesthetic depth by tranquilizers administered intravenously .General anesthesia can be considered.
How long does Otoplasty procedure take?
The procedure can last about 1 hour.
How visible will Otoplasty scars be?
Scars are usually located in the fold behind the ear or on the posterior side of the ear. In some cases, small incisions may be performed on the anterior surface of the flag , but will be hidden by the natural creases of the ear. The hair is cut at no moment.
Scars and Recovery after Otoplasty / Ears procedure
The surgery is usually an outpatient practice, that is to say by day hospitalization with an exit on the same day after several hours of surveillance. The pain is moderate.
Analgesics and anti-inflammatory treatment will be recommended to reduce pain.
The day after surgery, the first dressing is removed. Another lighter bandage will be in place for several days.
A band of restraint and protection must be worn day and night for two weeks, and then only at night for a few weeks. During this period, the physical or sports activities should be avoided.
How long after a Otoplasty do you start seeing results?
A period of one to two months is needed to assess the final outcome. This is the time needed for the tissues soften and the edema will be resorbed, leaving clearly shows the ear reliefs. After this period, only the scars will still be a little pink.
